Waiting on Wednesday #5

img-thing-pink2Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

I wasn’t really looking forward to this one, but now that I’ve received an ARC from the publisher… I’m very interested.

2236-1Can you hear Atlantia breathing?

For as long as she can remember, Rio has dreamt of the sand and sky Above—of life beyond her underwater city of Atlantia. But in a single moment, all her plans for the future are thwarted when her twin sister, Bay, makes an unexpected decision, stranding Rio Below. Alone, ripped away from the last person who knew Rio’s true self—and the powerful siren voice she has long hidden—she has nothing left to lose.

Guided by a dangerous and unlikely mentor, Rio formulates a plan that leads to increasingly treacherous questions about her mother’s death, her own destiny, and the complex system constructed to govern the divide between land and sea. Her life and her city depend on Rio to listen to the voices of the past and to speak long-hidden truths.

Will Be Available: October 28, 2014

~*~*~*~white_flag_of_surrender.svgA few years ago, I read Ally Condie’s Matched. I thought it was decent, but I couldn’t get more than halfway through the second book in the trilogy. Now that I’ve read The Giver, I feel even more unimpressed with that series. It’s so similar. But, you know me. I’ve self-diagnosed myself with “ORS”–otherwise known as “Obsessive Requesting Syndrome”– and my case is extremely serious. This girl requests like none other. Keep in mind that I have gotten better over the past six months. I actually research the books I request now. I’ve come so far! Hip hip hooray! If anyone wants to name a star in my honor, feel free.

I did not expect my request for this book to be approved (at all), but miracle of all miracles, Penguin took a chance on me. I’m really interested to see how Condie deals with this underwater world. Is it going to be the same humdrum as Matched? Or will this book completely blow my mind? Cue the Jeopardy music.  I guess I’m just interested to see if Ally Condie has stepped up her game since Matched and, if my hunch is correct, I think she has. For my poor brain and eyes, let’s hope she has.

What books are you eagerly expecting? Link your WoW and let’s talk books!

  1. I was the same way but I actually really loved Matched. But I also only made it halfway through Crossed. I haven’t read The Giver yet. Was supposed to see the movie together but then my friend couldn’t go. I’m always willing to give more books from the author a chance though. This one sounds pretty good!

    My WOW

  2. ORS, yes that is definitely a thing! I actually made it through the whole Matched series and I did enjoy it(I admit, the second one dragged) so I’m hoping this one doesn’t disappoint.

    1. Isn’t it? I don’t know if it’s contagious–I sincerely hope not–but, more doctors need to correctly diagnose it. It’s good to hear from other people that the second one dragged–it means I wasn’t alone 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!
