Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.
It is that time of the week again, folks! This week I’m featuring a book that’s a bit different than YA Fiction, but one that I’m excited for nonetheless!
The Magician’s Lie by Greer Macallister
Water for Elephants meets The Night Circus in The Magician’s Lie, a debut novel in which the country’s most notorious female illusionist stands accused of her husband’s murder –and she has only one night to convince a small-town policeman of her innocence.
The Amazing Arden is the most famous female illusionist of her day, renowned for her notorious trick of sawing a man in half on stage. One night in Waterloo, Iowa, with young policeman Virgil Holt watching from the audience, she swaps her trademark saw for a fire ax. Is it a new version of the illusion, or an all-too-real murder? When Arden’s husband is found lifeless beneath the stage later that night, the answer seems clear.
But when Virgil happens upon the fleeing magician and takes her into custody, she has a very different story to tell. Even handcuffed and alone, Arden is far from powerless—and what she reveals is as unbelievable as it is spellbinding. Over the course of one eerie night, Virgil must decide whether to turn Arden in or set her free… and it will take all he has to see through the smoke and mirrors.
Will Be Available: January 13, 2015
I’ve neither read Water For Elephants nor The Night Circus so this is a bit of a shot in the dark for me. I don’t really know what to expect! But, it has a good rating on Goodreads and I want to start reading more adult mysteries. Plus, I love magic. If you know me, you know that I’m obsessed with the movie The Prestige. And Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale in starring roles don’t hurt, either. 😉 Not that I’m expecting this to be The Prestige Part II, but mystery and magic go hand-in-hand so I’m kind of excited to start reading this! Okay, I lied. I’m really excited to read this.

The moment The Prestige was over I thought, “If I could write like that, I’d be brilliant.” I need to read that again…..

I know! It would’ve been such a great book. There was also such an intense cinematic quality about the whole plot, though, that I don’t think could be fully put on page. But, I would’ve definitely read it. 🙂
