Top Ten Tuesday: Books that people have urged me to read!

Top Ten Tuesday is a lovely original feature/weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

This week deals with books that I’ve been encouraged (threatened, by some) to read. When more than five people tell me to read a book, I usually don’t read it. And, then, years later, when I chose to finally pick said book up, I feel like banging my head against the wall because it is usually absolutely amazing. Think Hunger Games, The Maze Runner… Heard so much hype about them and I avoided them for so long. I don’t really know why?

 1. Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

9780062085504_p0_v2_s260x420I wouldn’t necessarily say that everyone has been recommending this to me, but it sure feels that way. It seems like everyone has read and reviewed these books, but I can’t make myself pick this one up at the library or at the bookstore. It’s cover is gorgeous, but I don’t know… The fact that Tahereh Mafi is married to Ransom Riggs does make me want to check this out a bit more, though. Whoever is married to that man has got to be amazing and must spin out some good stuff. I’ve only read his books. Gotta admit. Does that make me shallow? I don’t know.

2. Looking for Alaska by John Green

41r-sKjJ61L._SY344_BO1,204,203,200_Right now, as I am typing this, I have two copies of this book in my room. TWO! I think someone accidentally left me with theirs when I came back from college. Despite having two of this book, I just can’t make myself read it. I’ve also heard this book makes people bawl like babies and I’m not sure I’m ready for that. If King Kong (the movie) made me cry, I think this is going to make me want to hide underneath my bed until Jesus Christ himself comes back. All of this conjecture is solely based upon the emotional impact it has had on my friends, that is.

3. Fifty Shade of Grey by E.L. James

Fifty-Shades-of-GreySo, I recently learned that nearly all of my close friends have either read this book in its entirety or they’ve read parts of this book. Nearly all of my friends will be going to the movie on February 14. What will I be doing on February 14, 2015, you ask? I’ll be cuddled up with my elusive lover, Hallmark Channel. I can’t wait.

4. The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey

16101128I see this book everywhere! I need to get my hands on it! ASAP!

5. Unbroken by Lauren Hillenbrand

51+qLCOxERL._SY344_BO1,204,203,200_Nearly every single person in my family has read this book and raves about it. Now that the movie is coming out (trailer can be found here) on Christmas Day 2014, I really need to get down to reading this one. Nothing like an upcoming movie release to motivate one into reading the book.

6. The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater the raven boys maggie stiefvaterA few years ago, I read Shiver by the same author. I was thoroughly not impressed. Everyone’s been going crazy about this one, though, but I don’t know if I’ll ever get around to it. Too many books, too little time as they say.

7. Don’t Look Back by Jennifer L. Armentrout

13418925I’ve seen so many good things about this book on book blogs! It has an amazing average rating on Goodreads, too. I feel like Jennifer L. Armentrout is so loved by book bloggers everywhere and we’re all shamelessly promoting her stuff 24/7. That’s mostly where I’ve seen this book. How does she turn out so many books so quickly? She’s a mystery. I don’t know if I’ll ever get around to this one, but I did really enjoy Obsidian! We’ll see!

  1. Not gonna lie, I’m tempted to go see 50 Shades opening night with friends just to have a good laugh at it. I mean, more power to you if you enjoy the series but I’m just amused at how it has exploded in pop-culture as of recent. The sequel to The 5th Wave is coming out this sept so you’ll be in good hands if you opt to binge read both of them!

    Cheers,

    1. Exactly! That’s probably the only reason I’d go and see it… but, I feel like my friends would get annoyed with my sarcastic comments and unabashed laughter. Maybe I need new friends haha?
Oh, good to know! I’m A-Ok with cliff hangers as long as I have the sequel on hand. Otherwise, I’m a mess and no one should be within a 10-mile radius of me.
Love your witty blog! Thanks for sharing.

  2. I cannot emphasize how strongly I encourage you to read The Raven Boys. It’s unlike anything I’ve read before. It starts off a bit slow, but I promise, it is worth the read. I actually fell in love with Maggie Stiefvater’s writing after reading this book, and I’ve read everything she has writen, aside from her faerie books (but I will get to them). The Raven Cycle is one of my favorite series, to date. The third book is out in October!

Oh & I had a lot of fun with 50 shades. Guilty Pleasure, for sure 🙂

    1. Thanks for your opinion on The Raven Boys! I think I need to give Maggie Stiefvater another chance to redeem herself. I’ll check it out, I promise! Oh, goodie! October isn’t a long, unbearable wait 🙂 I can do that.
