Salome Montgomery fears winter—the cold, the snow, the ice, but most of all, the frozen pond she fell through as a child. Haunted by the voices and images of the strange beings that pulled her to safety, she hasn’t forgotten their warning to “stay away.” For eleven years, she has avoided the winter woods, the pond, and the darkness that lurks nearby. But when failing health takes her grandparents to Arizona, she is left in charge of maintaining their estate. This includes the “special gifts” that must be left at the back of the property.
Salome discovers she’s a key player in a world she’s tried for years to avoid. At the center of this world is the strange and beautiful Nevin, who she finds trespassing on her family’s property. Cursed with dark secrets and knowledge of the creatures in the woods, he takes Salome’s life in a new direction. A direction where she’ll have to decide between her longtime crush, Colton, who could cure her fear of winter. Or Nevin, who, along with an appointed bodyguard, Gareth, protects her from the darkness that swirls in the snowy backdrop.
An evil that, given the chance, will kill her.
WILL BE AVAILABLE: September 2, 2014

This book looks intense! Sure, this book promises a love triangle (bleh), but, if the reviews on Goodreads are any indication, the pain of enduring yet another YA love triangle just might be worth it for the plot and characters of this one. Plus, the cover is absolutely gorgeous… and I have a certain inclination towards books about winter. Maybe it’s a Seattle thing? Hmm. Still waiting for Netgalley to approve my request for this one, but we’ll see. 🙂

Two years after the massacre, the State enforces stricter rules and harsher punishments on anyone rumored to support tomo – the clairvoyant drug that caused a regional uprising.
But sixteen-year-old Sophia Gray has other problems.
Between her father’s illegal forgery and her friend’s troubling history, the last thing Sophia needs is an unexpected encounter with a boy.
He’s wild, determined, and one step ahead of her. But when his involvement with tomo threatens her friends and family, Sophia has to make a decision: fight for a future she cannot see or sacrifice her loved ones to the world of tomorrow.

So, sure, this book has already been published so I’m breaking the rules a bit here. Rebel status. But, I’m so excited that I just got this book for 99 cents! A young author, YA dystopian, and a mysterious drug… sounds like my kind of book.

I don’t mind love triangles if they’re done well, so let’s hope it is, because it does sound pretty good. 🙂
